The town of Moshi is near to Kilimanjaro International Airport and at the base of Africa's highest mountain. Most people climbing Kili will spend at least one night here, otherwise this attractive but unremarkable town has little on offer, apart from the mountain view of course. Watching the clouds fall from the steep slopes to reveal the mountain in sunset from a rooftop restaurant

Mountain Biking Cycling
With miles of quiet dirt roads, and many more footpaths, the eastern arc mountains, and beautiful lakes there are plenty of places to cycle or mountain bike in Tanzania. Mountain biking is a new development in Tanzania, with much potential. You get to visit places that are inaccessible by car, or see the back paths of villages where cars cannot go, and village life that other visitors cannot seen. Since cycling gets you off the beaten track, you won't have children asking for money, or overcharging you for shopping.
The best place for extensive long and flat rides is the Kilombero Valley, by the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. There are serious downhill runs in the Uluguru mountains near the town of Morogoro. The Usambara mountains also offer great Mountain biking in forests and on tracks. There is no restriction on where you can cycle (outside the parks), so you can choose to take on a real adventure and cycle somewhere were no tourists have passed before.
The advantage of mountain biking in Tanzania, is that you don't have to cycle up the hills if you don't want to ? you can get a support vehicle to give you and your bikes a lift up, or a porter to carry the bike on footpaths. You cycle down. Multi day trips can be vehicle supported, with cooks and staff waiting for you at each camp-site.
