This exciting safari is for the adventurous traveller who has a good level of physical fitness. It encompasses some amazing scenery and very remote areas. It provides the chance to see some unspoilt culture and some rare primates and birds. There is also the chance to go fishing in the the river.

Udzungwa & Kilombero Days Mid Range

Day 1: Depart Dar Es Salaam early and transfer by safari 4x4 transfer (lunch on the way) to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Here you will stay at Hondo Hondo Camp in an en-suite tent next to the forest. Hondo Hondo is an eco-lodge with hydro and solar power. It also works closely with local communities and has several health and educational projects in addition to a tree-planting project. Udzungwa is part of the Eastern Arc range of mountains and is known as the 'Galapogos of Africa' due to its high degree of endemism. There are several endemic primates on site at Hondo Hondo and over 100 bird species may be seen.

Day 2: Hike into the superb primary forest to the base and then the top of the spectacular 180m Sanje Waterfall looking for primates on the way (Iringa Red Colobus and Sanje Mangeby). Swim in plunge pools, see endemic African Violets growing in the spray zones and have lunch in the forest on the top of the falls. Descend after enjoying superb views. Return to Hondo Hondo for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning bird and monkey walk along the forest edge at Hondo Hondo, breakfast, transfer to Ifakara here you will meet your dugout canoe and experienced river fisherman who will then take you down the river to Mikeregemi fishing village on the edge of the Selous. Here you will camp in the community camp-site on the edge of Boomer Ulanga Forest Reserve.

Day 4:Full day exploring the village and river. Fishing trip. Overnight camping.

Day 5: Cycle back through the forest (looking out for elephants) about 10 km to the ferry where you will rejoin your vehicle and return to Udzungwa. Dinner and overnight at Hondo Hondo Tented Camp (en-suite Tent).

Day 6: Transfer to Dar or Zanzibar or Ruaha or Mikumi as you prefer>
