The Selous Game Reserve is the largest conservation area on the planet with the exceptions of the polar regions. Just a 40 minute flight from Dar Es Salaam this is an ideal opportunity to make your weekend special. Below is a typical safari itinerary please note several different accommodation options are available at different budgets:
Selous Flying Safari Weekend - Luxury Flying Safari
Day 1: Make your own way to Dar Es Salaam domestic Airport, catch the 8.30am flight to Myemere Airstrip in the Selous Game Reserve where you will be met and transferred by boat safari to Impala Tented Camp. Afternoon either boating on the Rufiji River or driving as you prefer. This area is fantastic for bird watching as well as big game. There is a resident pack of Wild Dogs close to camp. Selous Impala Camp is very comfortable and has excellent views of the Rufiji River. Dining is by the banks of the Rufiji River and you can watch fish eagles hunting over breakfast. Numerous animals walk through camp and you are escorted between your accommodation and the restaurant by Masai Guards.
Day2: Full day exploring the Selous on a game drive. Look for Wild Dogs, Lions and the elusive Leopard. Either have a picnic lunch in the Reserve or return to camp as you prefer. Full board at Impala Camp.
Day 3: Morning walking safari, transfer to Mtemere Airstrip and catch the 10.30 am flight to Dar (or continue on to Zanzibar).
Price: From $1585 per person based on 2 pax sharing. All inclusive except alcohol, sodas, gratuities and items of a personal nature.
